My work “Pollution” explores how pollution effect our planet. Marine and air pollution has been the most serious pollution in the world caused by humans. Therefore people should take action to protect our planet. By three drawings, I highlight environmental issues, emphasize their impact and establish a connection with people who care for the environment. Through the inspiration from Damien Hirst’s “The Shark”, my first drawing starts with a whale, full of plastic pollution around it. And adding the collage and glitch technique from Mimosa Echard’s “Sporal”, I created 36 color blocks and collaged onto my drawing to represent various instances of pollution in the sea. In the second drawing, I used a drawing of a lung as the layer, overlaid various layers of air pollution. The same collage and glitch technique are used in the second drawing to present what air pollution has damaged humans. The last and the most important drawing is about children. But I chose to put the four important elements: the whale, plastic waste, a lung, and exhaust gases as the layer. And I overlaid various nationalities and races of kids onto it. Children can be a symbol of all human’s future, they are our next generation. So that environmental issues influence the future of humanity as a whole. The whole work is a criticism to the all man-cause pollution, and to persuade people to pay attention to the negative effects caused by pollution and take more actions to protect our Earth.
