Monumental Units
The work responds to the recent nostalgia for Brutalism in society, examining this trend within the context of a neoliberal market. The design seeks to translate Brutalist aesthetics and ethics into the realm of contemporary furniture. Drawing inspiration from Brutalist architecture, including Yugoslavian “Spomenik” and industrial facilities. The pieces are crafted using precast concrete. This approach, guided by an “as found” philosophy, highlights the raw and varied properties of the materials in an honest, straightforward manner.
