My project explores Biophilia—the innate bond between humans and living systems—through wearable, interactive fashion artefacts. In the Anthropocene era, characterized by significant and often irreversible environmental changes caused by human activities - such as deforestation, climate change, urbanisation, and biodiversity loss - this work emphasises the urgency of reconnecting with the natural world. These pieces encourage sensory engagement with plants through sight, smell and touch, fostering a deeper appreciation for plant ecosystems and the vitality of life. By integrating nature into urban daily life, the project inspires environmental awareness, mental well-being, and a renewed sense of responsibility toward the environment. These wearable planters were crafted using techniques, such as wet moulding leather, pattern-cutting, sewing, felting and planting, and the artefacts merge functionality with aesthetics. Materials include waterproof-treated fabrics, vegetable-tanned leather, wool roving and living plants, highlighting sustainability and durability. The collection features wearable designs such as brooches, pouches, and plant-growing bags, enabling users to carry around a piece of nature. These artefacts are practical tools and symbolic reminders of humanity’s intrinsic connection to the natural world. By blurring the boundaries between fashion and ecology, Biophilia transforms daily routines into opportunities to nurture living organisms, encouraging mindfulness and care for the environment in increasingly urbanised spaces.
