This project explores the parallels between life and chess, focusing on the strategic decisions and stages that define both. Inspired by the chessboard’s 64 squares, I connect the movements of chess pieces to the phases of human life and the body’s motions. Through a three-dimensional graphic language, I visualise these paths with wearable artefacts that interact with the human form. Crafted by steam bending wood strips, then laminated with leather, the sculptural artefacts embody the movement fields of chess pieces, bridging design and performance. Set on a life-sized chessboard, these artefacts become props in a film that captures the body’s interaction with the board and objects. The project highlights the interconnectedness of life’s choices—like chess moves, every action carries weight. It encourages mindfulness, inviting viewers to reflect on life’s stages and the challenges they navigate. The six wearable pieces serve as extensions of the body, visualising strategy and movement in sculptural form. Presented physically and through moving images, they document the dynamic relationship between the chessboard and human body. Merging art, design, and performance, this work celebrates the poetry of movement, strategy, and consequence, offering a sensory reflection on the nature of life itself.
