This blindness project explores how the visually impaired can express their unique perceptions through photography, pushing the boundaries of what is traditionally defined as “visual” art to reveal their perspectives on life. Through interviews, distribution of disposable film cameras, and subsequent exhibitions of their work, the project invites blind people to experience and record the world through their eyes. Although blind people have lost their eyesight, they are still able to form a unique understanding and feeling of the world through the combination of multiple senses, such as touch, hearing, and smell. During the shooting process, they capture the moments that touch their emotions and interpret their perception of the world around them in a personalised way, which is not only a kind of artistic expression but also a release of their inner emotions. The interest of this project is to challenge the traditional concept of photography as a visual art, and to make the audience rethink the difference between “seeing” and “perceiving”. Visitors to the exhibition will not only be able to see photographs taken by blind people but will also be able to feel their thoughts, experiences, and inner feelings during the creative process through the documentary. This experience inspires understanding and tolerance of diverse ways of perceiving. In addition, by showcasing the artistic achievements of blind photography, the project helps more people understand and respect the blind community, emphasising that artistic expression should not be limited to certain abilities or senses, but should encourage everyone to find their own way of creation. This perspective not only enriches the forms of artistic expression but also conveys the values of care and tolerance in society.
