Some Romantic Noises

The use of artificial roses in my installation serves as a symbol of manufactured intimacy, which highly controllable, low risk, and stripped of decay. The roses are programmed to perform a continuous loop of collision and withdrawal, driven by Arduino modules and servo motors. This motion mimics an anthropomorphic gesture of closeness. Although the roses appear to touch, their movements are pre-programmed and their desire entirely fictional. What emerges is a relationship not driven by spontaneity, but by structure, where repetition replaces emotion, and proximity and inertia substitutes for understanding. Through these references, I aim to reflect on how contemporary relationships are increasingly shaped by abstraction and automation.
