Rural Journey

This project explores personal and cultural identity through the lens of migration, inspired by my mother’s journey to the English countryside and my own cross-cultural upbringing in North Yorkshire, Skipton. Using fashion styling, I reflect on the themes of adaptation, belonging, and hybrid identity by challenging traditional countryside attire and blending it with my own style and clothing from Yorkshire and accessories from the Philippines. In collaboration with a designer, “Miao”, the work creates a visual narrative of cultural fusion. It also speaks to the broader experiences of Filipino women migrating to a foreign environment in rural areas, highlighting both the challenges and the empowerment that come with negotiating identity in a rural place.
