Expanding Narratives: Towards Inclusive and Decolonial Practices in Fashion Archiving

This research project explores how fashion archiving can move beyond Eurocentric frameworks to embrace inclusive, decolonial curatorial practices. Through critical analysis of museum practices, social identity theory, and collective memory, it highlights the underrepresentation of Global South fashion histories and proposes actionable recommendations, such as community-led workshops, ethical collecting dialogues, and digital storytelling, to diversify narratives within institutions like the V&A Museum. The project aims to challenge dominant aesthetics and amplify marginalised voices in fashion heritage.
