“CHANGING BODIES” – salome kappelin (BAFCSM grad 2020)

“The only shape that was forbidden her was that of a woman.” ( C.Willett Cunnington, Womens clothing in the 19th Century) It begins already in kindergarten, the girls with straight hair wants to have curly hair and the girls with curly hair, wants to have straight hair. Why is that? As far as history goes, the female body, has always been a subject of change. Focusing on the 19th century woman and the way she through undergarments achieved the ideal look for the time, this film and collection questions why fitting the female body into boxes is so important for us, then aswell as today.
