Box of Instant Fallacy plays with the rules and regulations of artistic spaces. A peephole incites audiences to come near, and when they do, discloses an illuminated plaque with the form and language of gallery signage. It reads, ‘Please keep 1m away from the work at all times’. By design, audiences are forced to overstep the artworks’ instruction and are roused to consider their own exploitation. How did the artwork wielded authority over them, and what authority do they assert over the artwork? The piece relies on efficacious gaze and by concurring in this snide, perceptual experience my viewers are stirred to critique the power of their audience.
